Below, I tell you what happened to the protagonists of the Korean Netflix series. The new installment of the series based on Yeon Sang-ho’s webtoon of the same name begins with the resurrection of Jung Jinsu, who is very confused and just wants to find answers to what happened to him and the torture he suffered. Meanwhile, Min Hyejin (Kim Hyun-Joo) and Sodo continue watching So-hyun and Youngjae’s daughter who survived thanks to her parents’ sacrifices. However, Chief Secretary Lee (Moon So-ri) appears before Jeongchil and explains that the government needs the New Truth to regain power and work with them. The first step is to announce Jungja’s resurrection. After a brutal and complex first season, the horror K-drama returns to Netflix. The author of the original webtoon and its adaptation, Yeon Sang-ho, has once again pushed his characters to the limit, immersing viewers in an increasingly chaotic society that falls victim to cults and extremist policies. And as you’d expect with this kind of story, the six new episodes have raised more questions than they’ve answered. What really happened to Jung Jinsu? How did the baby survive his demonstration? Did Park Jungja manage to reunite with her children, and can we expect a third season of Hellbound? Here’s all about the season 2 finale, available on Netflix from October 25, 2024.

Hellbound Season 2 Ending Explained: What Happened to Min Hyejin, Jung Jinsu, and Their Followers?

Kim Jeongchil warns that the resurrection of leader Jung Jinsu could ruin his plans, so he orders Detective Kyunghun and his daughter to be tracked down. Min Hyejin and Sodo arrive just in time to prevent the kidnapping. Initially, Kyunghun refuses to reveal where the New Truth founder’s demonstration took place to please his sick daughter, but Hyejin convinces him to share the information. While Jeongchil manipulates Jungja into carrying out the New Testament of the New Truth, Sodo entrusts the mission of monitoring Jung Jinsu’s return to a man named Cheon Sehyeong. When this character from Hellbound is resurrected, Sehyeong detains him in his house and notifies Sodo.

As Jinsu learns more about his captor, he plans his escape. Although Cheon Sehyeong hands Jinsu over to the people of Sodo, he can’t stop thinking about what he told him about his wife Jiwon/Sunshine, who died after becoming a fanatic of the Spear. Trusting that Jung Jinsu will help him avenge his beloved, he rescues him and helps him meet with Pinwheel, one of the leaders of the Arrowheads. Of course, he is betrayed and killed. Jung Jinsu wants to meet Park Jungja to ask her if she also sees the executors in every mirror and with the help of his followers, he organizes a plan to “rescue” her from The New Truth. Meanwhile, Hyejin decides to carry out her own rescue operation to reunite Jungja with her children.

What Does the End of Hellbound Season 2 Mean?

The government needs two opposing groups under its control to maintain social order, so Secretary Lee arranges for Sodo, The New Truth, and The Spear to face off at Jungja’s launch event. While Sodo uses demonstrations to distract his rivals and track down the resurrected girl, Jeongchil is killed by Arrowhead fanatics. When Jung Jinsu announces his return and takes control of his cult, Secretary Lee has no choice but to hand over her Sodo informant. Min Hyejin and her partner Sungjip Kim are cornered at the mercy of the Spear, but Jinsu only wants to talk to Jungja, who flees in terror.

What Happened to Jung Jinsu?

At Jinsu’s insistence, Jungja reveals that she doesn’t see the Executors, but she does see the deaths of some people, specifically the last thing people see before they die. Jinsu refuses to believe her words, but she insists that the monsters she sees are actually inside him and chooses him for his cowardice. At that moment, Jinsu transforms into one of the Executioner monsters and disappears, despite his resistance, leaving his followers confused and disappointed. Meanwhile, Secretary Lee says she is going ahead with her plan: she orders a new leader of the New Truth to be elected, the New Testament to be prepared, and an explanation for what happened that night to be prepared. When Min Hyejin tries to reunite Jungja with her children, Sungjip Kim reveals himself as a traitor and attempts to kill the founder of Sodo.

Thanks to what Jungja told her about her death, Min Hyejin manages to avoid Sungjip Kim’s shot, and after a hard fight, she manages to stop him and save the resurrected woman. Before going to her children, the woman reveals to the one who was once her lawyer that the world will end soon, so she should do what her heart tells her to do. At the end of the second season of Hellbound Sugyeong Lee and thousands of others receive their warnings, causing chaos and terror. Kyunghun says goodbye to his daughter, Jungja reunites with her son, and Min Hyejin takes little Jaehyeon with her. Will there be season 3?

Why Did Jung Jinsu Change Actors Between Seasons 1 and 2?

Jung Jinsu’s actor in the first season of Hellbound, Yoo Ah-in, was replaced by Kim Sung-cheol for season 2 due to a conviction for repeated drug use. The character is crucial to the continuation of the story, as the founder of the New Truth sect, so his presence could not be ignored. The series had to find a replacement for him for season 2, choosing Kim Sung-cheol, known for other roles in K-dramas such as Sweet Home or Le Jeu de la Mort.

Why Is the Baby From Season 1 The Only One Who Survives A Demonstration In Hellbound?

In reality, the baby from Hellbound season 1 did not survive his demonstration: like all the damned, he was carbonized. However, he later came back to life, thus becoming the first resurrected in the series. Jaehyeon returned to the world of the living just seconds after his death, leading those present to believe in a miracle. The Pointe de Flèche tried to repeat the experiment by sending volunteers to protect the condemned but without success. We now know that it is an impossible goal: no one survives the execution of the three creatures, not even innocent newborns.

What Happens to Jung Jinsu in the Season 2 Finale?

Jung Jinsu becomes an enforcer at the end of Hellbound Season 2. Since his resurrection, Jinsu has been hunted by an enforcer. But the devil is in the details: the former leader of the New Truth only sees the monster in mirrors and is the only one who hears the screams that accompany it. In reality, the enforcer is already a part of him and eventually fully merges with him in the Season 2 finale.

Park Jungja Reunites with His Children?

Park Jungja is finally reunited with her son Eunyul as he picks her up in a car to take her to safety at the end of Hellbound Season 2. When Min Hyejin takes the Revenant to a car scrapyard, it is to take her to a person she trusts. The man who shows up to protect the woman turns out to be her eldest son, who has grown up since the first events of the series, which occurred eight years earlier when he was only 13 years old. He reveals to her in the car that he is taking her to meet Hayul, his daughter.

Is the world Really Doomed?

Park Jungja announces that the world is coming to an end, but his prediction may have a more enigmatic meaning than expected. The Risen One explains to Min Hyejin that “the world will soon come to an end” to persuade her to live the life she wants with young Jaehyeon. But then the clarification is made that “a new world will soon begin”: What if the end of one world means the beginning of another? The Risen One’s prediction would then simply be an announcement of a change to come, surely involving the numerous prophecies that occur at the end.
