What Jennifer Did: Where are Jennifer Pan and Daniel Wong Now?

What Jennifer Did is one of many true crime documentaries available on Netflix, but it is one of the most shocking because of the case it chronicles. The documentary tells the story of Jennifer Pan, a young Canadian who, one night in November 2014, called the emergency services to report that someone had broken into the house she shared with her parents, tied her to the stairs and shot his parents.

Authorities arrived quickly and discovered Jennifer’s mother dead and her father with a gunshot wound. He was alive, but they had to induce a coma to save his life, so Jennifer was the only witness who could tell them what had happened that night, and it was quickly discovered that her testimony was spotty and strange. In the interviews that can be seen in the Netflix documentary, Jennifer is shown upset and crying, but everything changes when she reveals that she had been lying to her parents, making them believe that she went to medical school every day, where her parents even took her every day, when in reality she had not registered for university. That made her a suspect in her case.

What Jennifer Did: What Happened to the Pan family?

After discovering the deception, the authorities decided to confront Jennifer to try to force her to tell the truth, this led them to discover that she was behind everything. Originally, she said that the men who entered her house were supposed to kill only her and that she had contacted them because she wanted to take her life, but that was not true either. Eventually, Jennifer’s father woke up from his coma and revealed that he had seen his daughter talking to the assailants that night and that she was behind it all. Investigations revealed that Jennifer had hired the men to eliminate her parents and that it had to do with Daniel Wong.

What was the Relationship Between Jennifer Pan and Daniel Wong?

Daniel Wong was Jennifer’s ex-boyfriend. The relationship had ended, but he was still in her life and she apparently wanted to get back together with him, but her family had forbidden it because he was involved in a drug deal. Jennifer and Daniel planned the Pans’ murder, and he even passed on to her the contact of the identified hitman Homeboy, who was the one who entered their house that night along with two other men. Daniel had originally said that he and Jennifer were being harassed and that his new girlfriend was jealous of the relationship they still had as friends, but that was not relevant to the case. The police say in the documentary that Jennifer and Daniel planned the crime (although she was the main perpetrator) to obtain money from the Pan family so that she could have independence and he could maintain his illegal businesses.

Where are Jennifer Pan and Daniel Wong from What Jennifer Did?

In January 2015, Jennifer Pan was sentenced to life in prison, with no bail for at least 25 years (Huei Hann Pan testified at her daughter’s trial), and is currently at the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener, Ontario, where he awaits news on his request to appeal for a new trial. For his part, Daniel Wong was also sentenced to life in prison without parole for 25 years, while the men hired by Wong and Pan, David Mylvaganam and Lenford Crawford, received the same sentence, and Eric Carty, the third of the assailants, received an 18-year sentence but died in prison in 2018.
