Under the production of Dopamine and Focus, as well as the distribution of Prime Video, Amaya Muruzabal (Hernán) is positioned as the creator of Reina Roja. A role that she has played through the invaluable help of the writer Juan Gómez-Jurado. For his part, director Koldo Serra has been in charge of directing the seven episodes of the Prime Video series, with the help of Julián de Tavira and Pablo Silva Glez. We already knew the director from his previous works in the series Money Heist, The Ministry of Time or Sin Traces, as well as in the films 70 Binladens and Gernika.

It has been almost six years since the Madrid writer published the novel, the first installment of a trilogy that he would later complete with Black Wolf and White King, and later adding the prequels The Patient and Cicatriz. That first installment soon became a bestseller in all bookstores and promoted its author as one of the most successful in Spain. Therefore, it was not surprising that the platforms fought over it until Amazon Prime Video reached an agreement to adapt the literary saga, with Reina Roja being its first strong bet for its 2024 series.

Directed by filmmakers such as Koldo Serra, Julián de Tavira, and Pablo Silva González, and with Amaya Muruzabal (Hernán) as showrunner, the series found Hovik Keuchkerian and especially Vicky Luengo as its two protagonists, in a cast that completes interpreters of the stature of Àlex Brendemühl, Emma Suárez, Celia Freijeiro or Eduardo Noriega. All this in a series that arrives on the platform on February 29, and that will have seven episodes within this confirmed first season. In addition, the premiere of the seven chapters will be simultaneous, so they can all be seen from the first day and thus offer the possibility of doing an entire marathon with the series, what some now call binge-watching.

What Reina Roja is About

Reina Roja tells the story of Antonia Scott (Vicky Luengo), who with an IQ of 242 is considered the most intelligent person in the world. That is why the police organization known as Reina Roja approaches her asking for her help to handle a case with maximum confidentiality, since if it comes to light she could shock both Spain and the entire world. With a murder committed and another in a process involving two of the richest and most important people in the country, Antonia has to get to work to solve the case as soon as possible. She won’t do it alone but is assigned to the temperamental Jon (Hovik Keuchkerian), a police officer about to be expelled for his misconduct but who will know how to partner with Scott to redirect her career.

Antonia and Jon will travel through Madrid in search of clues that will lead them to the whereabouts of their target, while they are closely watched by Mentor, an enigmatic figure who leads the Reina Roja project and who is closely linked to Antonia Scott’s past before becoming who she is. The series promises to be a puzzle on par with the novel, but as we have warned, it could be only the first chapter in a long saga that hopes to repeat the success of its original material.
