Nearly seven years after the release of the film Pink, Anirudh Roy Chowdhury has now directed the film Lost. Lost means Lost. Set against the backdrop of Kolkata, the story revolves around Ishaan Bharti (Tushar Pandey), a Dalit boy who performs street plays. The film looks very predictable in some places. It becomes easy to know what is going to happen next. But still, the question remains how did the missing boy disappear? Is he even alive or not? Enough to keep you hooked on the story. Every day someone goes missing across the country. Some are found, and others remain ‘missing’ for a long time. ‘Lost‘ tells the story of the search for one such ‘missing’ person. A drama-obsessed youth suddenly goes missing. After his disappearance, the police accused him of various charges. However, this is the story of a journalist who investigates the real reason behind it.

Lost Movie Review: The Story Plot

the story revolves around Ishaan Bharti (Tushar Pandey), a Dalit boy who performs street plays. He is deeply in love with anchor Ankita Chowdhary (Pia Bajpai) of a sinking news channel. Ankita interviews Chief Minister’s special minister Varman (Rahul Khanna). After that Varman becomes a guest on it. Gives him a great job and a luxurious house. Ishaan comes to meet Ankita one night and then goes missing. His sister and brother-in-law file a missing report with the police. The news of Ishaan’s contact with the Maoists comes in the media. There are orders to keep the police away from questioning Ankita.

Whereas Vidhi Sahni (Yami Gautam), an honest and conscientious crime reporter working in the newspaper, tries to get to the bottom of the case. She also receives threats many times, and her parents also ask her to stay away from this profession, but she keeps on finding the truth. Will she be able to find Ishaan in the end? Are Ankita and Varman involved in Ishaan’s disappearance? The story of Lost focuses on this aspect. The film looks very predictable in some places. It becomes easy to know what is going to happen next. But still, the question remains how did the missing boy disappear? Is he even alive or not? Enough to keep you hooked on the story.

Although the story is about the future, it is arranged in a very sophisticated manner. The film moves down the ‘track’ in stages. After realizing that nothing is happening as expected, the ‘interest’ of the audience also ends. In acting, Yami Gautam played the lead role very powerfully. Pankaj Kapoor’s ‘Nanaji’ is remembered. Rahul Khanna and others remember. Swanand Kirkire’s songs play in the background music. Shantanu Moitra’s music is in his typical style. The writer-director shows that not every guess is right about the path a journalist who dares to question the system has to take. If you want to see something different, go to ‘Lost‘. However, it still does not give the satisfaction of watching a perfect movie.

Lost Movie Review and Analysis

Yami Gautam has done a great job in the film. The battle between practicality and conscience can be seen on her face in the character of crime reporter Vidhi. On the one hand, Vidhi’s facial expressions establish her as a fearless crime reporter, while the ups and downs in her personal life also show that Vidhi is just an ordinary girl who is subjected to parental pressure and relationships. There is pressure to save. Yami’s emotional transformation will be seen again and again in the film. Which is awesome. Along with this, a good effort has been made to show the difficulties faced by a crime reporter. The investigation of the Crime Reporter method raises questions not only about those in high positions in the government but also about those who resort to hatred and violence to fight against the government.

Yami Gautam’s maternal grandfather is played by Pankaj Kapur, who was a professor before. Everyone has seen how amazing his acting is. Then whether it is Premchand’s stories coming on Doordarshan or Jahangir Khan of Maqbool. Here in ‘Lost‘ Pankaj Kapur’s character motivates Vidhi on one hand to live the life she wants. On the other hand, he also appears concerned about the safety of the law. It will be very cliché to listen to some advice given by his character to Vidhi. Like, make yourself so high… and do your work, don’t worry about the result. He looks very effective because of his excellent dialogue delivery.

Rahul Khanna has done a good job in the character of Ranjan Varman. Ranjan Varman is a rich politician, who is a minister in the government. The satisfaction of keeping people under their control based on money and power can be seen on their faces. A very dangerous person, who looks very calm from the outside. Ishan Bharti, around whom the whole story revolves. This character is played by Tushar Pandey. Tushar Pandey has previously worked in films like ‘Pink’, ‘Phantom’, ‘Chhichhore’. In this story, he is seen as an activist youth. Ishaan also participates in street plays to raise the voice of the oppressed and downtrodden people. He is worried about the growing inequality in society and that is the reason why he is annoying in the eyes of the ruling party and the rebels want to use him for their purpose. It can be said that the story of ‘Lost‘ is the story of Ishaan. Ishaan is Lost and he is being searched so his screen space is very less. Despite this, he has done justice to his character. Can Ishan be found now or not? Is he alive or gone? To find out about this you will have to watch ‘Lost‘. The rest of the characters in Lava, like Ishaan’s family, Vidhi’s parents, Ishaan’s girlfriend, the police officer, and the constable have all performed well according to their roles and screen space.

The screenplay written by Shyamal Sengupta has been seen deviating from the issues in many places. Maoists are being talked about in the film, but the writer and director have not been able to go into its depth. Many characters have a sudden change of heart, but the reasons behind it are not clear. How the crime reporter extracts information about important aspects related to the news from the policemen, all those angles are missing from the story. When the film reaches its climax, it seems that some shocking things will unfold, but a situation like Khoda Pahar Nikli Chuhiya happens. The scene of Vidhi’s video call conversation with the Naxalite leader has been depicted in a very superficial manner. This is an important scene of the film but has not become exciting. His intention behind making this film is noble, but he has not been able to make it come true on screen in a proper way.

However, Yami Gautam is effective in the role of a journalist. As a journalist, he has taken all the effort to get into the layer of the story and empathize with the victims with great ease. Pankaj Kapur impresses in the role of Vidhi’s Nanu. Many scenes between Yami and Pankaj are interesting. The conversation between them is also interesting. He is the main attraction of the film. In one scene, Pankaj says that he makes the best upma and sambar while talking about violence and Maoists and then comes back to praising upma.

Even though he pulls off this scene with ease, such scenes can only be performed by experienced artists like him. Rahul Khanna plays the role of a politician. Neil Bhoopalam does not add much to the story. Piya perfectly portrays Ankita’s ambitions. However, his character needed to be improved at the writing level. Cinematographer Avik Mukhopadhyay introduces you to new places in Kolkata. When it comes to the performance of the technical departments… Avik Mukhopadhyay’s cinematography has become a special attraction of the movie. Shantanu’s music is also good. There is something unsatisfying about Bodhaditya’s editing. I feel tired sometimes with long scenes. Zee Studio’s production values are good. It seems that this movie would have had a meaningful ending if the story had been worked on a little more.

Lost Movie Review: The Last Words

The movie Lost is a movie that adds awareness about illegalities and corruption, the police, the political system, as well as Maoist theories, love between two people, a responsible crime journalist, etc. But the lack of a strong point in the story and the crime reporting as the main theme of the movie, the ending is not given properly, so Lost seems like an ordinary movie. OTT is on G5. People who like heroine-oriented movies are likely to like this movie. Apart from the story of the film, one thing that helps to keep you hooked is the streets and narrow lanes of Calcutta. Naveen Kenkre’s production design has a big contribution to this. Overall, we have found the film worth watching. Those who haven’t seen it now can watch it.
