The Batman 2: The Sequel with Robert Pattinson Finally Has A Release Date!

The Batman 2, although it is not a surprise, is now a concrete reality and made official by DC Studios, complete with title and release date. Robert Pattinson will indeed return for a follow-up to the blockbuster 2022 film, which will be titled The Batman 2. The sequel is set for 2025 and will also see director Matt Reeves return to the chair. This return isn’t happening as part of a similar long-term deal at Marvel Studios, as executives confirm that, for now, Pattinson is only signed on for the sequel. However, as revealed by studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, the sequel will come in the new “DC Elseworlds” category, which identifies the film as set outside the main DC Universe, similar to director Todd Phillips ‘ planned 2024 sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux.

After many months of silence and some sporadic news, we finally have some official news on the future of The Batman. Recently, James Gunn, who recently became co-CEO of DC Studios along with Peter Safran, announced the line-up of the company for the next few years (via Screen Rant), confirming that there will be a trilogy dedicated to The Batman, with the second chapter which will be released in American cinemas, specifically, on October 3, 2025. The artist also confirmed that this cinematic trifecta and the series associated with it, such as the one on the Penguin, are not part of the main DC universe, but of an outside line called Elseworlds, also keeping company with the sequel to JokerJoker: Folie à Deux.

Gunn and Safran’s lineup confirms the re-tooling of DC films, which previously centered around Zack Snyder -directed films connected to 2017’s Justice League. The main DC universe set its new central release with Superman: Legacy, which will be released on July 11, 2025, just a few months before The Batman Part II. While the Pattinson franchise was already known to be set on a different Earth, the implied barriers between universes are now officially recognized under the label Elseworlds.

For Reeves, the delineation relieves any pressure to forcibly fit the film into an elaborate canon. In fact, the director recently hinted that he wants The Batman sequel to avoid the ostentatious presentation of a flashy supervillain. “My goal has always been to make these stories from a point of view that allows the character to always be the emotional center of the story. A lot of times what happens is after you do the first one, then suddenly other characters come into play and kind of take over,” he explained.
