The original story The Boogeyman was first published in 1973 in an issue of Cavalier magazine. The story is told through the eyes of a psychiatrist listening to a patient who claims he is being targeted by a supernatural creature. As the desperate man tells the psychiatrist, the Boogeyman cursed his family and targeted his children one by one. Although any child’s death could be explained by natural causes, since babies can suffocate to death in the night, the man is convinced he has found enough evidence to prove that the Boogeyman is real. The psychiatrist ends up dismissing the man’s story as a fantasy until the doctor becomes a new target of the creepy creature.
