In Indian cinema too, creators have started creating their universes.

Rohit Shetty is making his Cop Universe. It started with Singham. Then came Simba and Sooryavanshi, where the characters associated with all three films were seen. Lokesh Kanagaraj, who made Kaithi, is making Lokesh Cinematic Universe. Vikram, which came in 2022, was a part of it. Prashant Neel, who made KGF, is also making his universe. It is said that Yash of KGF will be seen in Salaar coming in 2023. Yash Raj is creating its universe by bringing together the biggest superstars of Hindi cinema. How it started, what is the major problem in it now, and what is the future of YRF Spy Universe, we will talk about all these points.

What is YRF Spy Universe?

Salman Khan’s film Ek Tha Tiger, which came in 2012, is considered to be the first film of YRF Spy Universe. However, at that time there was no such plan to start the universe from it. In the film, Salman played the role of a RAW agent who has to get some information. Before it falls into the hands of Pakistan. Ek Tha Tiger was made at a cost of around Rs 75 crore and earned around Rs 330 crore worldwide. Ek Tha Tiger became the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2012.

The sequel of Ek Tha Tiger came five years after the original film. The story of the first part was completely fictional. But the story of ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ was based on a real incident. In the year 2014, ISIS took 49 Indian nurses hostage in Iraq. In ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, a terrorist organization takes Indian nurses hostage. Salman’s character Tiger then goes to rescue him. After this YRF’s next big film was War. Aditya Chopra and Siddharth Anand together wrote the story of War. In War, Hrithik Roshan became a RAW agent who turns rebels. While writing War, Aditya Chopra got the idea of making his universe.  all the RAW agents should be brought together. Yet at that time he treated War as a separate film. There was no hint of any other film’s character or story in it.

The plan was to set up the story of the main character of each universe. Had anything related to Salman’s film been shown in War, Hrithik’s character Kabir would not have got the required space. This is the right step. You confirm the story of each of your characters. If we mix their stories in advance, then people will get confused. The same issue happened with a big Hollywood movie. Warner Bros. started its DC Universe with Man of Steel in 2013. Batman Vs Superman was the next film in this universe. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman came together in this film. After that, a film was made about his entire team. This was the Justice League that came in 2017. New characters like Flash and Cyborg got a place in the story. While the first Batman and Wonder Woman were also a part of the film. This story was important from Cyborg’s point of view, but the problem was that he did not get a proper place in the film. It was harmful to show so many characters together. Better than this, you could have shown his world by making a separate film on Cyborg.

Yash Raj Films does not want to make this mistake. Before the crossover of the Heroes of this Universe, you must have seen their different stories. This is a plus point with YRF Spy Universe. But there is also a drawback here. Whenever you are bringing together the heroes of any universe, it simply means that they have the same enemy. There is a villain more powerful than him, to fight with whom they had to come together. This villain was Thanos in the initial phase of MCU. To fight him, all the superheroes including Captain America, and Iron Man had to come together. YRF has not teased any such common villain till now.

From ‘Tiger’ to War, the story of people who were villains was limited to those films only. John Abraham became a villain in Pathaan. Seeing all the footage of the film that has come, it seems that the story of his character will end in Pathaan itself. In such a situation, if Hrithik’s character Kabir, Salman’s character Tiger and Shahrukh’s Pathaan come together, then who will they fight with? The answer to this has not been found yet. There were reports that two post-credit scenes would be shown in Pathaan. The image of the upcoming villain may be shown in them. Pathaan will be the fourth film in this universe. But this will be the first film where there will be a crossover of characters. Ashutosh Rana who became Colonel Luthra in War will be seen in the film. Salman Khan has also confirmed that he is a part of the film. After this, Pathaan will have a cameo in the upcoming Tiger 3.

It is said that both Shahrukh and Salman can be seen in the sequel of War. War-2 and Tiger-3 these films are sure to come into this universe. Apart from this, the story of Pathaan will go ahead. Many more things will happen in this universe. YRF has big plans for this universe. Before Pathaan, about 435 crore rupees were spent in setting up this universe. In return, Yash Raj Films also earned a solid Rs 1374 crore. The budget of Pathaan is said to be Rs 250 crore. Accordingly, about 685 crore rupees have been spent on YRF Spy Universe so far. The kind of buzz that has been created about Pathaan, it seems that it is going to prove to be another successful film in this universe.
