Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: What Is the Pact or Agreement Between Kang and Ant-Man?

Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Jonathan Majors are among the protagonists of the trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In the film, the three play respectively Ant-Man, Wasp and Kang. Also featured in the new trailer is actress Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, the daughter of Ant-Man. Just Cassie Lang seems to be the key figure of the trailer, at the center of the pact between Kang and Ant-Man. If you are wondering what happens in the trailer and what could be the plots that originate from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, this is the article for you!

What Happens in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania Trailer

Kang’s voice is heard in this trailer, speaking directly to Ant-Man. His words are:

You’re an interesting guy, Scott Lang. You’re an Avenger, and you have a daughter, but you wasted as much time as I did. But we can fix this.

After these sentences, Ant-Man asks who Kang is. This short dialogue follows:

Kang: I’m the man who can give you that thing you want.
Ant-Man: And would that be?
Kang: Time

This is a key scene in understanding the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania trailer. Scott Lang seems intent on making up for a lost time, or rather what he was unable to spend alongside his daughter Cassie Lang. The main reference that needs to be grasped is that of the accident that happened to Ant-Man in the previous chapter of his film saga, or Ant-Man and the Wasp. In the film’s finale, Scott Lang becomes trapped in the Quantum Realm and remains there despite himself for almost five years.

What Could be the Pact Between Kang and Ant-Man?

According to reports from those who have seen the previous trailer shown to the public at D23 Expo 2022, Kang declares his intentions in the video: he wants to hire Scott to commit a theft. Kang has had something stolen, and he wants it back. So, the pact between the villain and the hero would concern an exchange: if Ant-Man brings Kang the object he wants, he will give him back time together with his daughter Cassie, probably manipulating the Multiverse and various timelines.

From what can be seen in the trailer, something does not go as planned, so much so that at 1:39 of the video Scott Lang says: “we had an agreement!”. Has Kang perhaps betrayed Ant-Man and refused to keep his promise to make up for lost time with his daughter?

What Item Does Kang Want to Steal?

If Kang truly wants Scott to steal an item for him, one can speculate as to what the villain wants so badly. The version of Kang called the One-Who-Remains, seen in the last episode of the first season of Loki, has a very curious object. It is a stone with luminescent golden veins, which he wears fastened to the back of his hand.
In the latest episode of the Loki TV series, entitled For All Time. Always, the One-Who-Remains talks to Loki and Sylvie and at the end of the speech, he unties the stone and places it on his desk. Shortly after, Sylvie is seen to have the stone in her hand, and the veins of the object itself slowly fade away. Sylvie kills the One Who Remains, and lines of light resembling those on stone unravel across the Multiverse.

Could this object be what Kang wants to recover? Could it have been in his possession of him in the past, just as he had the One-Who-Remains variant? And what powers might he have? If my guess is correct, the veined stone is directly connected to the Multiverse. It could allow you to travel to all the infinite universes that exist, and also through time and space.

It cannot be excluded that the stone has the power to erase entire universes or timelines, and somehow govern the Multiverse, allowing it to be administered to those in possession of it. You can watch the first two chapters of the Ant-Man film saga and the Loki TV series on the Disney+ streaming platform.

The trailer looks very promising indeed and the theft involving Ant-Man could have major repercussions on the MCU. From what we see in the video Ant-Man will collide in an epic way against Kang, and the result of this clash could be the basis of future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films and create consequences for the film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is among Marvel’s 2025 releases. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will be released in cinemas on February 15, 2023.
