Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies: First Trailer and Release Date For The Grease Prequel Series
Ever since Paramount+ announced it would be revisiting the Grease universe with the prequel series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, it has seemed like this cinematic classic deserved to be revisited through the lens of the modern world. Today, at Paramount+ ‘s presentation at the Television Critics Association, the first trailer for the original series was revealed. The Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies teaser makes it clear that Jane (Marisa Davila), Olivia (Cheyenne Isabel Wells), Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso), and Nancy (Tricia Fukuhara) are going to shine in mid-1950s Rydell High School. The series takes place four years before the hit musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John and tells the story of outcasts who decide to have their way of having fun. The show has the potential to feature incredibly topical themes, as it centers on a group of young women who refused to behave the way they should in an age when diversity and feminism were little discussed in mainstream media.
The trailer also clarifies another important fact: Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies looks fun. Sure, we all expect partying, dancing, and singing, but there’s more to it when it comes to rebellious teens: Protests, brawls, and lots of car stunts can be glimpsed. Paramount+ also announced that the series will consist of 10 episodes and that the first of these will debut on April 6. In addition to the four leads, the cast also includes Shanel Bailey as Hazel, Madison Thompson as Susan, Johnathan Nieves as Richie, Jason Schmidt as Buddy, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper as Wally and Jackie Hoffman as assistant principal McGee.
