Evil Dead Rise: The Official Trailer is Terrifying

The Evil Dead is about to be resurrected. There’s a new Evil Dead movie for the first time in a decade. The previous installment, Evil Dead, was a reboot of the original franchise. The new movie, Evil Dead Rise, moves the action from a cabin in the woods to an urban apartment building as seen in the trailer. The Necronomicon, the Book of the Dead that always causes trouble in these films, is close at hand, however. And after its contents are read once more, the wicked dead begin to rise again.

While Bruce Campbell’s Ash isn’t featured (at least not in the trailer), Campbell is an executive producer on the film, alongside series creator Sam Raimi. (Lee Cronin, who previously made 2019’s The Hole in the Ground, directed the film, which is the fifth in the Evil Dead franchise). Warner Bros. also unveiled a much more violent red band trailer, which contains a lot of additional scenes and a lot more gore. (It also includes another franchise staple: Chainsaw) You can watch it on YouTube by clicking the embed below:

The Synopsis of Evil Dead Rise

Here is the official synopsis for Evil Dead Rise: “Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, Evil Dead Rise tells a twisted story of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is interrupted by the rise of demons possessing flesh, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of the family imaginable. Evil Dead Rise will be released in theaters on April 21st, 2023.

Evil Dead, across its four films and one TV series, remains one of the most diverse franchises in terms of storytelling. Whether you prefer the campy horror of the original, the horror-comedy vibes of its sequel and Army of Darkness, or the serious horror of the 2013 film, Evil Dead has something for every type of fan. Evil Dead Rise hits theaters on April 21, 2023 and is directed by Lee Cronin.
