As soon as every episode of Khakee: The Bihar Chapter comes to an end, a long name of a book appears, “Bihar Diaries: The True Story of How Bihar’s Most Dangerous Criminal Was Caught“. Khakee is based on this book. Its author is Bihar cadre IPS officer Amit Lodha. The special thing is that apart from being the writer, he is also the character of this book. The same is the case with series. Khakee is the story of the tension between police officer Amit Lodha and notorious criminal Chandan Mahto. If seen on the big canvas, it is the story of the conflict between the system and the gangster defying it. Will not waste time in telling the story, let’s directly land on other important issues. Khakee The Bihar Chapter Post (Netflix)

Police stories are always interesting for moviegoers because it is said that there is an opportunity to create an impact by telling police stories than the usual mass masala movies. Police stories based on real incidents not only thrill the audience but also show some lives on screen. Recently, a web series called Khakee: The Bihar Chapter has been released based on the real war between the police and criminals in the state of Bihar between 2000-2006. This web series, which attracted interest with the trailer itself, is currently streaming in Telugu on Netflix. And let’s see how this series is in the review!

Khakee: The Bihar Chapter Review: The Story

The series revolves around a criminal named Chandan Matho and a police officer named Amit Lotha. Chandan Matho (Avinash Tiwari) is a hardened criminal in Bihar. Land grabs, raids, settlements, illegal mining, and murders are all crimes, and he grows up to be a gangster. In this way, he avoids being caught by the police with the support of politicians and police officials in Bihar. At such a time, a young IPS officer Amit Lotha (Karan Thakar) who has just completed his training comes to Bihar. The Bihar government entrusts him with the responsibility of catching Chandan Matho. And did Amit Lotha catch Chandan Mato or not? What kind of war happened between the two? What challenges did Amit Lotha face in this process? It has to be seen on the screen.

Khakee: The Bihar Chapter Review and Analysis

Umashankar Singh has already written the screenplay of ‘Maharani’. The public also liked him. But the screenplay of Khakee: The Bihar Chapter is more mature than ‘Maharani’. More detailed. He is more Bihari. Bihari because the series itself is set in Bihar. Its special thing is that Umashankar Singh is in no hurry to go anywhere. He slowly unfolds the arrest of the police and the cleverness of the criminal. We have seen films like Gangajal and Shool of this genre earlier. This too is not very new. But not old either. The reason for this is the makers have more time here than in any film. The character-building of Amit Lodha and Chandan Mahto is superb. Everything doesn’t happen at once everything has its logic. There is such logic that even a very minor character becomes important later on. For example, there is a very small character, who becomes the reason for the death of Abhyudaya Singh.

When that reason is happening, it does not cross your mind even for a moment that this character will play a role in the death. Now don’t consider it a spoiler. The writing of the series is also very dark. Like at one time the whole village is murdered. Because of this, CM comes to visit the village. An airstrip is being made for them. If lime is not found, the policemen bring flour and when asked by the senior, they say: ‘Don’t worry, there is no one left in the house from which you have brought it.’ Sensitivity and poignancy are at their peak in this one dialogue. So, the policemen bring the flour and when asked by the senior, they say: ‘Don’t worry, there is no one left in the house from where you brought it.’ Sensitivity and poignancy are at their peak in this one dialogue. So, the policemen bring the flour and when asked by the senior, they say: ‘Don’t worry, there is no one left in the house from where you brought it.’ Sensitivity and poignancy are at their peak in this one dialogue.

There are many such scenes and dialogues, which remain with you even after the seven episodes are over. A common man says: Sometimes we give application, sometimes we stop the train, maybe someday the bestower of India’s fortune will fall upon us too. There is another dialogue: Many times, the difference between the police and Chandan Mahato is just the uniform. To write these dialogues and such situations, it is very important to understand the society there. Umashankar Singh has proved that he understands the society of Bihar very well. His writings paint a stark picture of Bihar, which is neck-deep in casteism. But in some places, the syntax gets beat. This may have been done intentionally, but why? Don’t know this. It is so in some other places as well. It is not possible to point out everything.

Khakee The Bihar Chapter Still (Netflix)

Bhav Dhulia directed ‘Rangbaaz’ before Khakee. That too was the true story of a gangster. He has put his entire experience into Khakee: The Bihar Chapter. A very mature series has been made. From the shooting to the arrest, everything looks very real. The plan to nab Chandan Mahto also does not seem like a fairy tale. Nor does the execution of that plan seem superficial at any level. While watching the series, one remembers all the police and gangster films. But nothing seems to be copied anywhere. On many occasions, everything seems to have been seen. The creator of the series is Neeraj Pandey. He is an expert in a police drama. His impression is also visible in this. This series is of seven episodes, it could have been limited to six episodes. It becomes a bit boring to drag it to the last episode. It seems that after reaching the peak of thrill and speed, the car of the makers has rolled down. Song written by Dr. Sagar Aiya Na Hamara Bihar Mein’ is wonderful. Usually, you skip the credits of any series, but because of this song, you are forced to watch it completely. The series is incomplete without Advait Nemlekar’s music. Very nice composition. Be it song or BGM.

Lagaan came in 2001, in which Amitabh Bachchan’s narration did wonders. Abhimanyu Singh’s Khakee has the same voice tone and the same refined accent. The director of Life of Pi had said that Irrfan Khan should get an award for his goodbye speech in the film. The same can be said for the narration of Abhimanyu Singh. His acting is just a number. Police Inspector Ranjan Kumar’s thud and helplessness both are visible on his face. Ashutosh Rana has caught the cleverness of Mukteshwar Choubey’s character very well. Ravi Kishan appears in the small role of Abhyudaya Singh. Anoop Soni has done a flawless job in the role of a police officer. Jatin Sarna has made Chandan Mahto’s partner Chamanpras sit in himself. Although this is also a character like Bunty from Sacred Games. Only the dialect is Bihar. Aishwarya Sushmita has come to the fore in the role of Chamanpras’s wife Mita. They also have cleverness. There is also the innocence of a housewife. Karan Tacker in the role of Officer Amit Lodha stole the show. How does a city boy find himself in the villages of Bihar and kill criminals selectively? Karan Tacker is the discovery of this series.

Nikita Dutta has also done an apt job in the role of Karan Tacker’s wife. Avinash Tiwari, like every time, this time also presents a very different performance in a completely different role from his previous roles. The animal inside Chandan Mahto is visible only on his face. On many occasions, even without doing anything, they do wonders just by smiling while twisting their lips. Khakee: The Bihar Chapter Review: The Last Words

I told so much about the series, but still, a lot is left. Khakee is a fresh and logical series despite the topic being filmed many times. Had it not been dragged till the last episode it would have been a better series. Catch up and see. Streaming on Netflix. Avinash Tiwari and Karan Thakkar have acted brilliantly in the characters of mainly Chandan Matho and Amit Lotha. If not showing the background of real incidents in Bihar even if it is dubbed in Telugu, those who want Telugu will not be disappointed. This series has been well directed by director Bhav Dhulia. Umashankar’s writing is impressive despite the occasional faltering. Cinematography, visuals, and background music are a plus for the series. Producers Sheetal Bhatia and Abhishek Chowsky’s production values are good.
