Lady Chatterley’s Lover: Netflix’s Movie Has a Trailer and Yes, It Will Be the Sexiest Movie of the Year

The first trailer for Netflix’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover has arrived and has made two things very clear: the first is that it doesn’t look like it’s going to have the same problems with fans as it did with Persuasion because the adaptation of the original work seems to be very faithful. The second thing is that it will undoubtedly be the sexiest movie of the year, how could it be otherwise?

And it is that the film, directed by Laure De Clermont-Tonnerre and with a script by David Magee, is the latest adaptation of the most controversial novel by D.H. Lawrence. It tells the story of an upper-class woman from the 1900s, Connie, who is married to a man she no longer loves. But one day she meets Oliver, the ranger of the estate where she lives with her husband, and a new story of love, passion and sensuality begins that will completely change Lady Chatterley and could generate an unprecedented scandal.

A scandal just like the one that exploded when the book went on sale, first privately in the late 1920s and then to the whole world, but which was censored for the explicitly narrated sex scenes. It was not until 1960 that a complete version was available in the UK. It is not the first adaptation of the work, far from it. Before Netflix’s version of Lady Chatterley’s Lover, there were BBC miniseries and movies (one from 1993 with Sean Bean, and another in 2015 with Richard Madden, for example), French, Indian, and American productions, and now we can enjoy new performance by Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Jack O’Connell (Invincible).

Unfortunately, to see it we will still have to wait, and the release date is scheduled for next December 2. It will be then when the fans will be able to decide if it is finally the best version of Lawrence’s work. At the moment, critics give it a 92% approval rating.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover: The Story

In a plot of love, loss and deception, Lady Chatterley’s Lover tells the story of the woman protagonist (Emma Corrin) who is betrothed to Sir Clifford Chatterley (Matthew Duckett). Things take a turn for the worse when Clifford comes home from World War I lame and wounded. Living a life devoid of passions, Lady Chatterley is unexpectedly overwhelmed by an encounter with the charming family gamekeeper, Oliver Mellors (Jack O’Connell). The two embark on a hot relationship, but their recklessness soon leads them to be on everyone’s lips. Knowing that she has to make a choice, the Lady will consider whether she will continue living worldly life with her husband or whether to change everything for a new beginning with Oliver.

The trailer starts at the beginning of the story, with the Chatterleys exchanging vows and Lady Chatterley moving into her new estate. In a sombre tone, we see the lady carrying out her household duties with no joy, until she sets her eyes on her Oliver di lei The sexual chemistry is immediately evident between the two, and their relationship is shaping up to be rapidly evolving. Not being very discreet in their lustful encounters, we see that rumours start to circulate and people closest to Lady, including her husband, are wondering what she is up to. Beyond their sexual attraction, the trailer reveals that Oliver brings a whole new world to the high-born woman who has spent most of her life within the walls of castles and estates.

The cast also includes Ella Hunt as Lady Chatterley’s close friend, Mrs. Flint; Joely Richardson as estate carer, Mrs. Bolton; and Faye Marsay as Hilda, Lady Chatterley’s older sister.
