Andor Episode 3 Summary and Ending Explained: Where Do Cassian and Luthen Flee? Why Is Andor Being Hunted by Pre-Mor and The Empire?
Star Wars series Andor Episode 3 introduces its key characters and crosses Cassian (Diego Luna) with the path of what will become the Rebel Alliance. As a prequel to 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Andor Diego Luna, and child actor Antonio Viña bring Cassian Andor to life and show how he came to be a spy for the Rebel Alliance. We see the evolution of Cassian from a child on the planet Kenari, where he is forced to work in some mines, to his adulthood where he is an expert thief and begins to work for the rebel cause against the Galactic Empire.
The first three chapters of the series premiered on Disney+. The events begin with Cassian Andor as a shady character who steals to survive along with her adoptive mother, Maarva, on the planet Ferrix. Andor Episode 1-3: Summary
The plot especially in the first 3 episodes, turns out to be quite simple and linear: Cassian (Diego Luna), in a desperate attempt to track down his missing sister, is hunted by two imperial agents and cannot help but kill them. Back on the planet Ferrix, where he resides with his adoptive mother Maarva (Fiona Shaw), he is aware that he has left some tangible trace behind him and that he must disappear before they come looking for him to hang him. And this is how he will come into contact with the nascent Rebellion, choosing to try to fight the Empire even though he is still convinced of the futility of such an effort.
Curiously, one of the first aspects we want to focus on is something that has been missing from Star Wars for perhaps too long, since Luke, Leia and Han ran into the Ewoks or Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon met the underwater Gungan people on Naboo: the taste for exploration, discovery, knowing how to paint different, peculiar civilizations and cultures, Andor in this is simply monumental, he manages to immerse the viewer in always credible scenarios. Ferrix or Kenari, where the flashbacks of a young Cassian are set, not just locations with a different color palette where events necessary for the plot take place (and yes, Episode 9, we’re referring to you), but they are also living places, real and buttons.
Andor Episode 3 Ending Explained: Why Cassian Has Been Fighting The Empire Since He Was 6
During the first and second episodes more of Cassian’s life as a man in debt is shown. While looking for credit to survive, he also investigates the whereabouts of his lost sister. In flashbacks, it is shown that on the planet Kenari Cassian’s name was Kassa. Together with her sister and other young residents, she defended herself from working in a mining facility. A Republic ship crashes near the group, so they go to investigate, but accidentally kill the pilot. When a space cruiser arrives to resolve the situation, Cassian is rescued by the junk collector Maarva.
These memories explain the phrase that in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Cassian Andor says to Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), as he argues that for him the rebellion is real because he has lived it since he was 6 years old, he is part of the conflict. The series still leaves the whereabouts of Cassian’s sister up in the air, who may not only still be alive, but could be part of the Empire and the conflict and drama between the two are what makes Cassian loyal to the rebel cause.
Why Is Andor Being Hunted By Pre-Mor And The Empire?
As an adult, and in his search for his sister, Cassian murders two guards on the planet Morlana, putting him in the crosshairs of Pre-Mor corporate security and its Deputy Inspector Syril Karn. As a fugitive from justice and in possession of a valuable empire item, Cassian asks his friend Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) to speak to his contact who buys contraband. Unbeknownst to him, this mysterious contact will change Cassian’s life and draw him into a fight that involves bigger things than just staying alive.
Andor: Cassian joins the rebellion thanks to Luthen Rael
The third episode of Andor on Disney+ shows the consequences of Cassian’s actions when Luthen Rael and the Pre-Mor arrive on the planet Ferrix and it is revealed that Bix’s contact is Luthen Rael, a spy working against the Empire. Impressed by his thieving skills, Luthen agrees to buy the item from Cassian and offers him a chance to fight for a true cause and seriously hurt the Empire. Cassian has never fought for anyone other than himself and is hesitant to abandon his foster mother and go with Luthen, though his decision is hasty when they are attacked by the Pre-Mor.
In an action-packed escape, Cassian blasts and Luthen manage to escape the planet, though they leave the Imperial item on the planet. In the end, aboard Luthen’s ship, Cassian seems to reflect on the loved ones that she leaves behind. At this point in history, the Rebel Alliance does not yet have a large established base and is made up of small cells, Luthen will likely take Cassian to some large ship where he knows the rebel movement thoroughly.
